Clayoquot could be a world leader, WITH a sustainable WILD SALMON economy that protects wild places and wild salmon, and gives us local work we can all be proud of.

Here's our plan to save wild salmon, forever:

peoplepower-01.png

Build our people power

People have the power to pressure governments to change laws, and to pressure corporations to change practices. We outnumber them! The science is clear and the last pillars of this heavy-handed industry are crumbling. It’s long past time to get #fishfarmsout of the oceans—and you can help! Salmon People is a way to amplify your voice—we’ll let you know when there are actions you can take to make the difference for wild salmon.

Get the farms out of the Sound

Despite the abundance of pristine rainforest rivers, Clayoquot Sound’s wild salmon runs are in serious decline, with runs now numbering in the tens, rather than tens of thousands. No surprise—wild salmon are in exceptional decline everywhere open-net pen salmon farms are in operation around the world. Wild salmon can never thrive while fish farms are spreading drugs and disease, pollution and pesticides.

SET UP the new solutions economy

The wild salmon economy in British Columbia is already much bigger than the salmon farming industry. Imagine how much bigger it could be—if farmed salmon were not killing off wild salmon. The solution is to get salmon farms out of the ocean, then we can focus on rebuilding wild salmon stocks, growing the local food economy, and creating abundance for everybody.

THESE ARE SALMON FORESTS.
WE ARE SALMON PEOPLE.
